PEZ candy originated in Vienna, Austria in 1927. The name PEZ comes from the German word for peppermint, Pfefferminz.

-Candy was marketed as a breath mint when it originally came out for an alternative to smoking.

-In 1949 the first dispenser was introduced.

-In 1952 PEZ was introduced to the United States.
